On March 25th and 26th, 2016, National United University in Miaoli, Taiwan held “2016 International Conference on Professional Development for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language-Progress and Prospects”. Ube College has concluded an exchange agreement with the university. The professor of the department of General Education, Mr. Hatamura, participated the conference.

The topic of this international conference was how to develop young people who want to teach Chinese language in Europe, the United States, and Asian countries. Researchers from not only Taiwan, but also many countries like Germany and Korea participated the conference.

Professor Hatamura introduced his Chinese classics lesson with presentations in at Ube Kosen in Chinese. His original approach to the lesson which he combines Chinese classic literature and communication education got researchers interest and multiple Taiwanese researchers asked questions after his presentation.
Also Professor Hatamura participated a discussion meeting as a panel member on the 2nd day of the conference. The topic was the same as the first day. He reported on the present situation in Chinese language education in Japan, and the condition for being a Chinese language teacher in Japan for foreign people.

National Institute of Technology sent Professor Hatamura to National United University in Taiwan to give oversea training from last September for three months. Taking this opportunity, Ube Kosen and National United University in Taiwan concluded an exchange agreement on November, 2014, and we have started to exchange between students since last March. We are going to accept some students from National United University in Taiwan in this June and July, and our three staff are going to National United University in Taiwan for a month from this August to undertake the collaborative study.
