On March 12th, a global understanding workshop, “ASIA DAY” was held at Kure Kosen in Kure city, Hiroshima. 8 regular students including 2 Malaysian students attended the workshop.
Both international students and Japanese students from Kosen in Chugoku District attended “ASIA DAY”, and they could deepen their understanding of different cultures, especially cultures of Asian countries.
At the beginning of the workshop as an icebreaker, the students colored each piece of map puzzle of Asia with the color of the national flags.
After that, they learned “fair trade”. This was the main event of the workshop. Office staff of JICA talked about “fair trade”. The students deepened their understanding of “fair trade” by doing a role-play. In the role-play, some of the students played producers of cacao, and the others played buyers.
Then, international students from each Kosen set up a booth by country, and the other students walked from booth to booth. There were Vietnamese booth, Cambodian booth, Malaysian booth, and JICA’s booth. The students tasted Vietnamese coffee, played games about Cambodia, and played some Malaysian games.
At the end of the workshop, all the students made food samples to have international students experience Japanese culture. They divided into teams and divided each group’s responsibility. They worked together and could make high-quality food samples.
Not only between international students and Japanese students, but also they could communicate with other Kosen students. They had such a productive day.
