On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, we held the kickoff meeting for “Ni-Haro Taiwan 2025 (First Semester),” a Japanese language exchange program connecting students from partner schools in Taiwan.
“Ni-Haro Taiwan” links students from the Japanese Department of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with Taiwanese high school students of the same generation through online Japanese language exchanges. The first session was held from October 2020 to February 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic; since then, the program has been conducted annually, new members participating each semester.

A total of 52 Japanese students (38 from Ube National College of Technology and 14 from Niihama National College of Technology) participated and were divided into groups of 25 from the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. They plan to continue their activities until summer vacation, with group members changing weekly.
In the exchange activities, the participants discussed topics such as popular music, food, English, and manga in Taiwan and Japan, primarily in Japanese and sometimes in Chinese. Thishas helped deepen mutual cultural understanding and has supported the improvement of Taiwanese students’ Japanese language skills.

Many students participating in this exchange activity had previously attended training at the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages or are scheduled to do so this summer. We look forward to further active interactions both online and in person.
