We gave an overseas internship at Harbin Institute of Technology in Weihai, which is a sister city with Ube, for about 3 weeks from March 6th to 24th. 2 students of the Advanced Course and 1 student of the Regular Course joined the internship. Weihai is known as the city of good environment around the world, and the city gets high in ranking of “The ranking of the most livable cities in China”
Harbin Institute of Technology
Harbin Institute of Technology is a superior university which makes top100 in Asia. There are 11,000 students, the revel of the lectures is high, and English is used daily. Most of the international students are from Korea, and many of them are from Soul University. A dormitory for international students is being built and 500 students will be able to live in the dormitory. The university is a beautiful university with a huge campus, and academic atmosphere.
In this internship, the students did not only their research at a laboratory, but also visited three local companies introduced by the International Policy Division in Ube city.
First, they visited Valin Electronic Co., Ltd which is located close to the university. Valin Electronic Co., Ltd was established by combining with Mitsubishi Electric and a local company twenty years ago. Now, Valin Electronic Co., Ltd is China’s government-owned company. The president is Mr. Katagiri and he involved since the launch of the company. He was praised for that achievement, and chosen as an honorary citizen by Weihai city. There were four more Japanese workers, and Mr. Saito, an engineer at the company, was very pleased the Kosen student’s visiting because he graduated Kosen.
Valin Electronic Co., Ltd
The next company was Ying Quan International Economic ＆Technical Cooperative Co., Ltd in Wendeng Distric, next to Weihai city. Mr. Li Qiang, the president of the company is fluent in Japanese, and he founded the company after he worked as an interpreter or so on at International Relation Division of Weihai. His business is that he teaches Japanese to local young people and send them Japan as an engineer trainees. He has sent 4,000 Chinese trainees to Japan.
Ying Quan International Economic ＆Technical Cooperative Co., Ltd
The last company was Yu Xiang Aquatic Food Co., Ltd. This company exports fillets of mackerel and salmon and things like that to Japan. It has a keeping warehouse in the office, and its factory was great. Mr. Wang Jing, the vice president of the company, told the students interesting stories such as the issue of customs duty special to export, how to compete against Thai and Vietnam and upgrade the products.

The students could feel the globalization from visiting the three companies. We will continue to contact with companies around Weihai, and Harbin Institute of Technology.
