Japanese students and international students had the “Iwakuni/ Suo-Oshima Cross-Cultural Experience Tour” on Saturday, August 7. They visited Kintaikyo Bridge and Suo-Oshima. Eight international students from Laos, Mongolia, and Malaysia as well as twelve Japanese students from the 1st to the 4th year, a total of twenty students joined the tour.

This tour was originally planned by Ube Kosen Global Meister students who were currently in their 4th year last February. It was postponed twice due to the COVID 19 expansion as well as the coordinators being replaced, but the tour was finally conducted.

Students were separated into four groups that were mixed with Japanese and international students. They walked around Kintaikyo bridge, castle town district close to the bridge, and Iwakuni castle, then they went to Michi no Eki Sazanseto Towa in Suo-Oshima after lunch.

International students who came to Japan last April had difficulty going sightseeing inside and outside of Yamaguchi prefecture because of the Covid 19 pandemic. But we were finally able to conduct the cross-cultural experience tour and it was a good opportunity for Japanese and international students to know each other.

We have a plan to conduct another cross-cultural tour to Miyajima (Hiroshima prefecture) in autumn, which will be planned in the late-term by our students who are involved in international exchange (depending on COVID 19 situation).

Students walked around as a group of international and Japanese students.

UCHIDA Yoko(3rd year of the Department of Business Administration)

This was my first time to join the “cross-cultural experience tour”. Although it was my first time to meet international students from Mongolia, Malaysia, and Laos as they were in a different year and department, I managed to be friends with them because they were very friendly.
We visited the famous Iwakuni castle and Kintaikyo bridge in the morning and we had an authentic Kawara soba for lunch, then we went to an ice-cream store that had the largest selection in Japan. In the afternoon, we went to a beach in Suo-Oshima.
The day we had the tour was hot, but it was such a fun and fulfilling program that the heat almost did not bother me.
I will join the tour next time as a coordinator, and I would like to make a good program and provide an opportunity for good communication.

OYUNCHIMEG DULGUUN (4th year of the Department of Intelligent System Engineering)

This was my first time to join the cross-cultural experience tour for international exchange. Eight international students and twelve Japanese students went to Iwakuni Kintaikyo bridge, Iwakuni castle, and Oshima. I was happy to go there because I had not visited many places in Yamaguchi prefecture. I was impressed seeing forests and rice fields from the bus until we arrived at Kintaikyo bridge. We crossed over the bridge and there was Iwakuni castle on top of the mountain. We went to the castle by cable car. A senior volunteer there was so nice and told us many things such as Japanese history, historical people. Then we visited Oshima. We had such a fun day by experiencing Japanese culture and history. It was really good that I joined the cross-cultural experience tour.
