After-School Exchange Activities with Short-Term International Students through the Nihao Japanese Program

Since the beginning of the first semester of the 2024 academic year, our school has welcomed short-term international students—specifically, 10 from United University and 4 from Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. After classes, active exchange activities involving our students and visiting students are regularly held.

As part of these efforts, we conduct an after-school program called “Nihao Japanese” every Thursday, lasting about an hour. Within this program, short-term international students and Japanese students form mixed groups to enjoy board games, card games, and various other activities together.

Students introduce games from their home countries and often discover surprising differences in the rules of familiar games, such as UNO, which fosters lively and fun discussions.

Although English is occasionally used for communication, among the most appealing aspects of the program is that students can connect through smiles and shared experiences—even without words.

All the activities are planned and led by our students, who—driven by a genuine desire to welcome our guests and learn about diverse cultures—actively engage in creating meaningful exchange experiences.

Ube Kosen is committed to internationalizing our campus and creating an environment wherein students can engage in global exchanges without having to travel abroad.
