On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, we held the kickoff meeting for “Ni-Haro Taiwan 2025 (First Semester),” a Japanese language exchange with high school students from partner schools in Taiwan.
“Ni-Haro Taiwan” is an international exchange program that connects students from the Japanese Department of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with Taiwanese high school students of the same generation through online Japanese language exchanges. The first session was held from October 2020 to February 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, and since then, the program has been conducted annually with members changing between the first and second semesters.

This time, 52 Japanese students (38 from Ube National College of Technology and 14 from Niihama National College of Technology) participated and will be divided into groups with 25 students from Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. They plan to continue activities until summer vacation, changing group members every week.
In the exchange activities, participants discuss topics such as popular music, food, English, and manga in Taiwan and Japan, primarily in Japanese and sometimes in Chinese. This helps deepen mutual cultural understanding and supports the improvement of Taiwanese students’ Japanese language skills.

Many students participating in this exchange activity have previously attended training at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages or are scheduled to participate this summer. We look forward to active face-to-face and online exchange activities in the future.
