We conducted an online closing ceremony of “Online Business English Training 2021” which was organized by 6 students of Taiwan Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, we signed an academic exchange agreement, on August 6, 2021. This training was provided for 2 months from May to the end of July and 16 students of 4-year of the Department of Business Administration participated in.

Our international exchange office has accepted students of Taiwan Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages (Kaohsiung) that we signed the academic exchange agreement as English practicum students in the Department of Business Administration since 2018 so that we can provide to our students as part of education to obtain English conversation skills that are required for business at school. Taiwanese practicum students perform English conversation classes face to face.

Practicum students could not come to Japan due to COVID-19 since 2020, so we provided online English conversation classes and it was the second time to have online style classes followed by last year.

16 students of the Department of Business Administration who participated in the classes and 6 students of 3-year of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages who performed as a tutor joined the ceremony and each of them made comments.

We will continue to have such online communication events even after we resume face to face communication.

Students Comments

YAMAMOTO Ryoka (4-year of the Department of Business Administration)

In a short period of about two months, I feel that my English skills have improved considerably. At first, I couldn’t understand the English spoken by the teacher properly, and above all, I was very nervous.
However, I enjoyed studying English with PowerPoint, which is easy to understand. In particular, I was very happy that the pronunciation was corrected.
Also, it was fun to be able to get along with the teacher and have daily conversations.

NOMURA Natsumi(4-year of the Department of Business Administration)

Thank you for always giving us fun lessons.I think my English has improved thanks to you.Thank you for sharing such a wonderful time.

Shirley Wu (3-year of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages):

First of all, I want to thank Ube Kosen for giving us this opportunity to communicate with their students. All of the students diligently worked hard during the classes, and even though English is a bit difficult for them, they were still willing to practice using English to share their opinions with us. Participating in this online event not only allowed me to communicate and do intercultural exchange with students from Japan, but also use this opportunity to improve my teaching ability. Finally, I also want to say thank you to all of the Ube Kosen instructors. Thank you for organizing this meaningful event.

Bonnie Jiang (3-year of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages)

I would like to thank Ube Kosen for giving me the chance to participate in this internship and learn more about English teaching. I am blessed to have the opportunity to meet my Japanese students and have class with them every week. To me, it is not only a course but also a great opportunity to improve my English ability, especially speaking as well as further improve my teaching skills. I enjoy the atmosphere very much when we are in class. Although from time to time, there might be some less interesting content to cover in class, I am happy that we are still able to have great interaction with each other. I view our interaction less as a teacher-student relationship, but more like friendship. Thank you all for brightening my days, I wish you all the best!

Linda Zhang (3-year of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages)

This is my second time joining this event, the first time was last winter. Although this is my second time doing the online teaching with the Japanese students, I still learned a lot from it!
From this event, I am not only able to practice my speaking with all of my class members, but I could also apply what I have learned from my department — DFLI. During these several weeks of online teaching, I am very glad that this time I had three members in my class, so that I could learn how to prepare the courses based on what characteristics they have and tried as hard as possible to make the course content suitable for each of my class members. Also this event gives me a chance to learn how to manage a class with different members and how to deal with the problems that may happen during class!
Even though we are doing teaching online, this is still a method of teaching, and this kind of teaching may be one of the future trends, so I am very lucky to have the chance to join this event, and provide me a chance to practice what I have learned in school and also let me accumulate different teaching experiences.
It is my pleasure to meet everyone in this event. I have learned a lot and will have lots of memorable memories from this experience. I hope my class members will have a great memory of this online teaching too!

Sammie Liao (3-year of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages)

I am glad that I had the opportunity to participate in this teaching activity. In the course of these two months, it not only allowed me to have more teaching experience but also let me have the opportunity to meet new friends, Riho and Misaki. Although at first, we were not familiar with each other, but after a few lessons, we gradually developed not only a tacit understanding, but also a steady pace. I am happy that Riho and Misaki’s reading and speaking skills have improved and can now speak English fluently. If there is a chance, I hope I can take part in this teaching activity again!

Sally Chang (張文瑜、文藻外語大学外語教育学系3年)

There are two students from my class, Maimai and Kokoro. First, I’m happy to have this internship opportunity. Although I can’t see you in person, I think that it is a different experience to have classes online. We have no face to face instruction, but I think the effectiveness is actually quite good. You are all willing to use English to answer my questions. In the process, if there are any difficulties, you would immediately ask me. I have enjoyed this teaching process, which can give me more teaching experience and let me know what my areas for improvement are. It was a great experience for me. I hope that all of you have gained something in this class and that you had a very happy and fulfilling learning process!

Moriarty Xue (3-year of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages)

This is my first time to participate in the online teaching program. It’s really an interesting experience for me. I think online teaching is very different from face-to-face teaching. At first, the difficult thing for me was how to get familiar with people who were in front of the camera within a short time. The part that left the biggest impression on me was when sometimes, in order to communicate, my students and I would use different words to explain our thoughts when we couldn’t understand each other. One good solution to this difficulty is to have more interactions through games. After playing games together, my students and I would feel more relaxed and I saw more smiles on their faces. Gradually, no matter the break time before the class or during class, my students started to be willing to share their own ideas with me. This also let me know that some habits are not the same in different countries. I hope my students enjoyed the online teaching program just like me. I wish I can join this program again and again.
