“Ni-Halo Taiwan” is an activity to communicate online with students whose major is Japanese at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is an international exchange program to communicate with the same-age Taiwanese high school students in Japanese. Our 1st “Ni-Halo Taiwan” was conducted from October 2020 to February 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, we have been having the activity twice a year and the first half and the second half had new members every year. This year is the 5th year since we started and we will make 11 groups with 22 students from Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages and shuffle the members every week, and we will have it up to the end of June.
During the exchange activity, they discuss music, food, comic books, etc. which are popular in Taiwan and Japan in Japanese, sometimes in Chinese. So that, they can understand each culture and it helps Taiwanese students to improve their Japanese skills.

Last year, our students who joined this online exchange activity attended Taiwan Mandarin Language Training at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages during the summer holiday. During the training, we held an exchange session first time to communicate with Taiwanese students at the Department of Japanese Language. We expect that they will have meaningful time together online and in face-to-face sessions since many students who will attend the Taiwan Mandarin Language Training this summer join this activity.
