We interacted online with students of the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan), for which we have an academic exchange agreement, for about 2 months from Tuesday, June 7/ 2022 to Monday, August 15/ 2022.
The Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages has a 4-year course and a 5-year course which is called 5-year specialized course for students who graduate from junior high school. 14 students from Ube Kosen and 7 students from the 5-year specialized course of the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages (hereinafter 5-year specialized course) joined the online interaction.

All the Taiwanese students who joined the online interaction spoke Japanese as they specifically studied Japanese every day, but they never talked to Japanese students of the same age. Considering that, we made a group consisting of 3 students which were 2 Ube Kosen students and 1 student of 5-year specialized course. They enjoyed “chatting” in a casual manner, the way Japanese students chatted normally, for 30 minutes to 1 hour talking about a topic that they prepared ahead of time and they were all interested. The online interaction was conducted 10 times total and we changed the members of each group every 2 times. So, we think that all students of Ube Kosen and the 5-year specialized course had opportunities to communicate with many people.

The interaction was done in Japanese, so it was not difficult to join for junior students. Because of that reason, there were many participants from the 1st-year. We will continue such online interaction even though students have started to go overseas from this summer.
