The fourth NIT-NUU Japan Taiwan international conference (in charge: Anan Kosen, support: Kagawa Kosen) was held online on Thursday, September 2, 2021. 5 Ube Kosen students gave presentations respectively (oral presentation: 2 students, poster presentation: 3 students).

The purpose of NIT-NUU Japan Taiwan international conference is that teachers and students of Taiwan National United University and Kosen (Chugoku/ Shikoku district, the fourth block) present their studies and communicate academically. The conference was face to face up to two years ago, but we had to cancel last year due to COVID-19. This was the first time in two years.

President of National United University gave an opening message

At the conference, we separated into 10 sessions (machinery, chemistry, biochemistry, materials, electricity, electronics, control information, civil engineering, architecture, environment, education, culture, engineer education, language education) and there were oral presentations and poster presentations in English. We had a question-and-answer session after the presentations and we had discussions and exchanged opinions actively.

The fifth conference will be organized by National United University and be held in Taiwan in 2022.

Students Comments

FUKUMITSU Haruna (5th-year of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering)

Ms. FUKUMITSU provided an oral presentation at the chemistry and biochemistry session.

I made a study presentation on blue carbon in the Seto Inland Sea at the 4th NIT-NUU Bilateral Academic Conference 2021. It was my first presentation in English, so it was tough to prepare and practice presentations in English. I was very worried if I couldn’t answer some questions in English. I felt that it was difficult to present my study, which is why I needed to study English more after the conference.

MURATA Aika (5th-year of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering)

Ms. MURATA conducted a question-and-answer session at the chemistry and biochemistry session.

I made a study presentation on COVID-19 concentration in the sewage treatment plants at the 4th NIT-NUU Bilateral Academic Conference 2021. I studied at MARA University of Technology in Malaysia when I was a third-grade student in 2019. I thought that the experience I had at that time was useful and helpful. I will continue to make efforts every day so that I can present my study results. I hope that it will be face-to-face for the next conference, and I would like to deepen my knowledge in exchanges with students at Taiwan National United University.

YAMASHITA Koki(2nd-year of the Advanced Course of Production Systems Engineering)

I participated in the poster presentation at the 4th NIT-NUU Bilateral Academic Conference. It was held online due to the corona disaster, but I faced it with the same tension as when I actually announced it locally. Since it was a poster presentation, it was important to get people to listen to it, but there were also difficulties unique to online, such as the need to devise how to attract people in a virtual venue online. I don’t have many opportunities to attend international conferences, so it was a very good experience.
