令和4年11月25日（金）、本校が学術交流協定を結ぶ国立聯合大学（台湾・苗粟市）の創立50周年記念式典に、畑村学留学交流室長が出席し、高専を代表して祝辞を述べました。

式典には国立聯合大学と個別に協定を結ぶ高専から16名が出席。畑村室長は来賓の1人として高専を代表して挨拶を述べ、高専と聯合大学との交流のスタートや宇部高専との交流についてなどの紹介を行いました。
本校は2014年11月に聯合大学と学術交流協定を締結しました。以降、夏・春の長期休業を利用した本校学生の海外研修や、本校での聯合大学学生のインターンシップ受入れなどの交流を行っています。この2年間は新型コロナウイルスの影響により中断していますが、来年3月には本校学生の海外研修が再開される予定です。

First of all, Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of National United University NUU. I would like to express my respect to President Woei-Shyan Lee and all the staff for their hard work in preparing for today’s ceremony. I would also like to express our respect for NUU for producing human resources not only for Taiwan but also for the world during the last half-century.
The Japanese and Taiwanese governments have eased restrictions on new coronavirus infection control, and we were able to celebrate this special occasion. As if it is waiting for the 50th anniversary of NUU.
Usually, our President Isao Taniguchi should have made a speech as a representative of NIT, but unfortunately, he could not attend this special ceremony. I was surprised that he asked me to give this speech. I believe it is because I have visited NUU more often than any other person, and I was the easiest person to be asked by 呉芳賓研発長.
This year is the 60th anniversary of NIT, and a ceremony was held in Tokyo just last week. I feel a deep connection（In Chinese, it’s called 緣份. In Japanese, it’s called縁） to the fact that the 50th anniversary of NUU and the 60th anniversary of NIT are held in the same year and the same month.
The exchange between NUU and NIT began when NIT, Kisarazu college signed an agreement on December 13, 2006. It is 16 year’s ago. And then, in 2012, NUU and NIT signed a comprehensive exchange agreement. Because of this agreement, many NIT schools could connect with NUU. Some NIT colleges have also signed individual agreement to deepen the relationship with NUU. All of the NIT colleges that are here today are such schools.
NIT, Ube College, where I work, signed MOU with NUU on November 21, 2014. At that time, the relocation to the 八甲 campus had just been completed, the trees in the new campus were so short and small, and there was still construction work going on all over the 八甲campus.
At the time, I was just in NUU as a visiting researcher for three and a half months. I feel a deep connection（緣份） with NUU, having stayed at NUU during the memorable year, participating in the grand ceremony and signing the MOU, and now being able to participate in the 50th-anniversary celebration here.
During my stay in 苗栗, I received warm hospitality every day from everyone at NUU, especially from 何修仁老師 and the professors of 華文系, from 韓欽銓老師 and the staffs of Research and Development Office 研發處, and a lot of NUU cute and handsome students. Thanks to them, I really enjoyed my 苗栗’s life.
After that, until the pandemic began, I visited Taiwan four or five times a year for student support, my research, and family trips. I would my photos in Taiwan and 苗栗 on Facebook, so my friends almost misunderstood I was still staying in Taiwan. My relationship with Taiwan has affected my family as well. My daughter entered Natinal 成功大学 in 台南 this September. The day before yesterday, I met her and ate dinner after 3 months. I feel my deep connection（緣份） with NUU, 苗栗 and 台湾.
In these two and a half years, face-to-face exchanges have stopped, but I am sure we will be able to resume the student exchange program soon. I will try to develop our relationship further.
Finally, I would like to express my best wishes for the continued growth of our relationship. Congratulations to NUU on its 50th anniversary! Thank you very much.
